My work deals with history and memory. The images from which I use as source material is both personal and found. I make no direct reference to either, it is left open ended for the viewer to decide. At the moment I’m working with photography as source material for my work. What interests me in these photographs or objects as I like to call them is not necessarily the subject matter but what is going on as a whole. What is going on in the background? What is the relationship between the subject and other elements in the picture plane? How would this look if it was a painting? These are questions I ask myself while exploring places for source material such as flea markets or antique shops. You could also say that my work is regional in that when I’m searching for source material it is usually originating from the same area as the place that I find it in. I collect ephemera and other objects to form new histories. My paintings are just one part of the bigger picture.
